San Roque, The Philippines - 2019

I travelled to The Philippines a second time in October 2019 and went to San Roque. I met a woman in her early 70s who earns a living doing laundry for some locals with her 30-year-old son who was disabled. He used to drive a tricycad for a living but then got sick and was not able to work due to his conditions. I was shocked to see where they lived and I could clearly see the son was not able to help and take care of himself and his mother.

The house they lived in was about 4 feet tall and 6 feet long. I decided to organize two handymen, and although the son could not do much he was very adamant about helping in whatever he could do. After the home was built she invited me in the next day and prepared some soda and bread with a tin of sardine that she prepared for me to show her appreciation for what I did.
